Mikasa is a talented fighter, having honed her skills even before she signed up to become a soldier. She has an incredible amount of control when it comes to her body, as well as her emotions, and it gives her the power necessary to devote herself entirely to her style of fighting. She's skilled in various forms of martial arts, and is a quick learner even when it comes to styles she is not familiar with, and she'd been called prodigal and a genius when it comes to fighting, physical form, and skills with maneuvering devices. This also comes with an apparent skill towards military genius in the form of commanding and fighting, and she is incredibly lethal when she wants to be - showing little to no hesitation to enact violence. Mikasa is also known to have an incredible singing voice, though few know it.

ACTIONSPAM SAMPLE: (what we’re looking for is how well you know the voice of your character; we’re not looking for what’s in the action/thought brackets. 8-10 sentences should do (or 100 words minimum), or we also allow a 10+ comment thread from a previous game as well as a thread from the test drive)
PROSE SAMPLE:
Mikasa had originally woken up outside. Except her outside had been in the gardens, not twenty feet from the mansion, and it had therefore taken considerably less time to get inside. Because inside was the best choice, here, when there was a considerable lack of trees or buildings or anything else her 3d gear could have held onto. So she heads in that direction, after checking for titans or any kind of titan activity in any way. It was disturbingly quiet, considering where she had started off, but she keeps moving. Being inside means she will likely be a sitting duck, if they followed her there, but at least it gives her height. Something to latch onto and get her gear moving. Then she could fight. If she's near the building then at least she can use it to fight.

So she goes towards the building. Runs, even, until she gets there and gets inside the door and closes it behind her. It's then that she gives herself a moment to breathe, to realize that she wasn't underground when she woke up, or above ground in the capital, or anywhere near the walls. There's no distant sounds of destruction, that would be coming from the female titan, from Annie, but if she wasn't there then Eren and Armin weren't right behind her and then--

No. She has to find Eren, has to take down annie and keep Eren safe. the mission was over, didn't work, and Armin had been the one to say that their best chance was for Eren to get it together and if they could just buy him enough time then it would work. But she couldn't do that if she didn't know where they were, where she was. And the more time Mikasa spends thinking about it, the more she ends up letting that panic rise up in her chest, and the harder it starts to be to breathe. She closes her eyes to think, just for a second or two, to calm down. Stop her brain and stop her heart and stop everything. When she opens them again, it's all pushed back, all pushed away, and she can stand up off the wall - swords in hand - and start down the nearest hallway.

Someone has to be here somewhere. Someone has to know what's going on, and how to get back. They have to.

Character History:
Mikasa's life, prior the fall of Wall Maria, had been generally decent. She lived with her father and mother in the farmlands of Wall Maria (the poorest of the three sections) and had been, for all intents and purposes, happy. Mikaa was young, out-going and unusually perceptive for a young girl- noting how, even in her easy, simple life, notd how predators hunt and kill the weak. But even with knowing this, she was content with being happy in this life, because she was safe. She had her mother, and her father, and they lived behind the walls and away from the Titans. They had a simple life, but a good one, and even had a doctor who would sometimes come to visit the family for medical reasons. Mikasa's mother was Asian, the last known one of her kind, and because of that she and Mikasa were considered "rare commodities" in the eyes of the more questionable businesses, like human trafficking. When Mikasa was nine, slavers broke into her home and killed her father, and had attempted to kidnap her and her mother. Her mother fought back, though, and was subsequently killed in front of Mikasa in their home, leaving only her left of the Ackerman family, to be kidnapped and mostly likely sold off as a slave to a very wealthy family in the inner Wall.

Before this could happen, however, a young boy found her and killed two of her three attackers, trying to save her from her fate. Before, Mikasa had been scared, young, and unable to fight back. She had accepted her fate, because there was nothing she could do. That is, until this young boy came to her rescue, killed her attackers before she even knew what was happening. He introduced himself as Eren, the son of the doctor who visited her family, but she was taken aback by his actions, by how easily it was for him to kill. Eren, while trying to break her out of the house she'd been held captive in - her own - was grabbed by the third slaver, held against the wall by his neck to be strangled. He urged Mikasa to fight, to fight back, because she had the ability and she had the chance. She was not powerless, or useless, and she could change her fate as long as she lived. The attacker didn't believe she would do anything, turning his back on her as his attention was completely on trying to strange the nine year old boy, and as Mikasa stood there trembling she had a realization. She had the knife in her hands, had the opportunity, but she froze up, remembering. Understanding.

"This world is a callous and merciless place."

She kills her first person, that day, driving the knife into his back again and again. But what comes from that killing is more than a number, but an ability over herself. Mikasa is able, because of what Eren said, because of what he did, to unlock the fighting instincts she always had inside of her. Complete and total control over her emotions, her body, her ability to fight. Not long after Eren's father appears with members of the Military Police, but Eren takes care of it, is able to keep Mikasa from having to deal with questions, or even to be looked at as a suspect. They're only children, after all. After everything dies down, Eren gives Mikasa a scarf and tells her that she can stay with his family if she wants, now that she's on her own, and from that day forward Mikasa devotes herself to the Yeager family - her saviors.

Eren, especially, becomes a very important person in her life, following him around closely after she is brought in to their family. After the events with the kidnappers, Mikasa becomes increasingly withdrawn, quiet, and seemingly emotionless. She follows Eren around closely, the reputation soon making its way out and around the rest of the families in Shiganshina that Mikasa was a force to be reckoned with, fast, powerful, and fiercely protective over the younger, louder Yeager child. She has a much cooler head on her shoulders, calms Eren down when he gets worked up, and she has been accepted fully into the Yeager family - comfortable around both parents as well as Eren. She also becomes close with one of Eren's close friends, Armin, who is constantly bullied. Despite the fact that it Eren, who constantly stands up to these bullies for Armin's sake, it is Mikasa who tends to actually scare them away.

She becomes content, even happy, with the life she's created with Eren, the Yeagers, and Armin. She is once again in a situation where she thinks things might get better, where she can possibly relax.

THE SHINGASHINA ARC
The year is 845, and the day starts off normal enough. She is out collecting wood with Eren, in the fields connected to their current town - Shinganshima. Eren falls asleep under a tree and has a bad dream, and when Mikasa comes over to wake him up, she's concerned to find him crying. He writes it off, and they continue into town, Eren talking on and on and Mikasa listening. The way they act makes it seem like this is normal for them, a day that they would have like any other, and even when they make it into town and Eren argues with some of the soldiers slacking off on duty, Mikasa doesn't seem surprised. They watch the Survey Corps return from a failed mission, and Mikasa isn't phased. To her, it doesn't matter about the titans, about the wall. She worries about Eren, about Armin (seen when she jumps in with Eren to save him from bullying), but doesn't seem interested in much else. If anything, she disagrees with Eren's need to join the Survey Corps, knowing what it would mean for his safety. She tells his parents what he wants to do because she thinks it will help change his mind, even after Eren had made her promise not to tell. To her, nothing is more important than his safety, than for Eren to survive, and joining the Survey Corps would not be the career choice if he wanted to live. They have been safe behind the walls for a hundred years, going outside of them by choice? Suicide. And while Mikasa doesn't seem to care about her own fate, she cares about Eren's, about having the ability to protect Eren.

She can't do that as well outside the walls.

They fight, but fight like children, and Mikasa continues to watch over Eren even after he runs away from home (after a fight with his mom). While they are out in the town, however, they witness the first catastrophe that mankind has faced in over a century - the Colossal Titan breaching the Wall's gate, allowing the much smaller Titans that had been unable to get past the walls into the city, one of such Titans making its way towards the Yeager home. Eren takes off first, ignoring the chaos that begins to erupt around him, and Mikasa follows. They get to their home to find it destroyed, Eren's mother caught in the debris, and while Eren acts immediately - running to try and lift the large beam off his mother - Mikasa freezes. Stares off in the flames, the ash, the death and destruction around her and realizes it's all happening again.

Eren, just like he had during the day she watched her parents die, spurs her into actions, forcing her to help him try and free his mother from the wreckage of their home. She would not have moved if it weren't for his yelling, spurring her to act by his side, to put everything she has into trying to save his mother, the woman who had taken her in. They are both only children, however, and are unable to lift the large beam from her back, fingers bleeding under the splinters of their efforts. Hannes, a soldier they had met before, appears them and saves them from the wreckage, picking them up and running off moments before a Titan appears and eats Eren's mother. They're put on a boat and sent inside the wall to live like refugees, off rations and in warehouses, waiting for the rest of the world to make room for the disaster that is a broken through wall. Eren is enraged, inspired to act, and is like a rabid dog left in a cage - lashing out at anyone and everyone who tells him anything other than what he wants to hear. Armin and Mikasa try to reason with him, try to calm him down when he gets in trouble with some of the soldiers, but when Eren's anger turns to physical force - enacted on Armin - Mikasa steps in.

She punches Eren, brings him back to his senses, which is an ability she proves herself able to do time and time again. Eren gets out of hand, and Mikasa steps in, calming him down and bringing him back, because she has devoted herself to the promise she made his mother, telling him in that moment that she will do anything, and everything, to keep him alive. Including force feeding him if it comes to that.

104TH TRAINEES ARC
The next we see of the trio is the first day of training camp, joining the ranks of the 104th Trainees Squad in an attempt to fight back against humanity's war on the Titans. Spurred on by their own personal tragedy, and the government's attempt to send refugees to fight back against the Titans, Mikasa, Eren and Armin find themselves among the ranks of people from all walks of life - those who are hoping to find themselves living the high life within the walls of the capital among the Military Police, and those who are just reckless enough, just dumb enough, to join the likes of the Survey Corps.

Through the officer training school, Mikasa continues to follow Eren around, keeping close to him through their classes, dinner, and down time. She is just as quiet, just as soft-spoken, but seems much more confident in herself and her own abilities, as well as settled in her life duty - protect Eren. It is fairly obvious that the only real reason she's joined the corps was because Eren was going to, and she knew the easiest way to look after him would be to follow along. She excels at every test as well, proving herself to be a natural at the three dimensional maneuver gear and all other qualifying tests, as well as integrating with the other students. Despite her almost cold exterior, Mikasa proves to have even a sense of humor, seemingly oblivious at times but incredibly perceptive at others, her attention depending entirely on her interest, and the importance, of the situation. She is not necessarily as idealistic as Eren, or as intelligent as Armin, but when given orders she will follow through with them until the very end, without fail, and without mistakes. During her training, Mikasa is also confronted with - for seemingly the first time - someone who is just as good if not better at fighting than she is, and proves herself to be willing to learn from anyone she needs to in order to improve for herself. Determined, strong-willed when she wants to be, with an almost aloof sort of air to her - Mikasa is ranked first in her class during graduation, rumored to b one of the best trainees in military history. What is complicated about this position, however, is that while she worked her hardest in training she did not necessarily do it out of any personal need.

She just knew that as long as she was in the top of the class, that meant she could pick which division she would be assigned to serve in, and could follow Eren wherever it was he decided to go.

THE BATTLE OF TROST
Graduation day comes, and Eren applies to be a part of the Survey Corps. However, before Mikasa can do the same, and follow him into the same battle to keep him safe, to protect him from the one goal he has devoted his life to achieve - killing all the Titans - the Colassal Titan breaches Wall Rose the same way it did Wall Maria all those years ago. However, before she can follow Eren to the front lines with his squad, she is assigned to the rear guard, to protect the civilians as they escape back inside the next wall. She searches out Eren, then, showing off a brief moment of weakness when she finds him, when she shows off her fear for him, and she makes him promise he won't do something reckless. That he won't die. He makes that promise, thankfully, but it doesn't do much to quell the worry in her heart.

And while she does do some good at the gate, while she is able to kill any titan that comes close and allow more families through than would have gotten through normally because of wealthy businessmen trying to force their way through, she isn't able to stay there for long. After saving a mother and daughter and giving them a chance to escape, she is reminded of her own family, of how Eren is the only family she has left- her heart is still with him, still off on the front lines. But she waits, she helps with the rest of the evacuation, gets the civilians through the gate, before abandoning hr post and running to help her comrades in he fight. She goes after the Titans, goes to find and protect Eren, and she comes across a haunted Armin in the process - an Armin who is broken, crying. He tells her that Eren is dead, consumed by a Titan, gone.

There isn't enough gas to get the other soldiers up the wall, there is an entire squad cornered in the headquarters, and Eren is dead.

Something breaks in Mikasa, then. A switch going off somewhere in the back of her head. Eren is gone, dead, all because she wasn't there to protect him. She insults the other soldiers there, says they're all worthless, that she's the only one who will be able to kill them. And she will. She will kill every last Titan until she can no longer stand, until she's dead, because what more is there to live for? Outwardly, she closes off completely, eyes shutting down, seemingly unaffected by the news. She can fight just as well, she can move just as well. It's not until she jumps off the side to head to the headquarters that Armin notices how reckless she's being, how she doesn't even seem to care for her own life. Because it's true. She doesn't. Where before she was controlled, sharp and true with her actions, her movements - here she is loose, uncaring. She clips buildings, attacks Titans without fear. She goes after them like they're nothing, like they're flowers in the grass, and she uses up all her gas while doing it, falling to the ground. In a battle against Titans, if your 3D gear doesn't work you're as good as dead, but Mikasa doesn't care.

She's lost her only family, the only people she loved, again.

Titans corner her at this point, and Mikasa awaits her death. Stands there and knows it's over, is okay with the fact it's over. She closes her eyes and waits for the end, for her death, only to feel her body move at the last second. To lash out with her blades when the hands get too close. She remembers thinking that the world is cruel, it destroys all that is beautiful, that her life was good but now it could end, and then she acts. Her body moves, her limbs react, and she doesn't know why. But then she thinks, she remembers the words Eren had yelled at her all those years ago.

"Fight! Fight!"

It's the thought of Eren that gets her up on her feet again, her will returned in full force, just to have a second Titan step over her and destroy the other Titan in front of her. Which, for all she'd known, for all anyone had know, was impossible. And yet here she was, watching it happen, unable to believe her eyes. The image gives her new life, keeps her up until Armin and Connie have a chance to get to her, and when faced with this new information and the understanding that there are too many Titans at the headquarters, that if they want to survive they have to get inside... and Armin comes up with a plan. Mikasa refuses to leave Armin behind, refuses to let him believe that there's no other way, and the push is what helps him figure it out. A plan that Mikasa believes in full force- because she believes in Armin, could see the intelligence and the ability he has even if he doesn't know it himself, full force. They bring the Titan to the building, let it loose on the Titans surrounding the buildings, giving them the chance to get inside and fill their gas tanks - after another incredible save my Armin's strategizing ability, something she tells him when he begins to lose his confidence.

When they leave the building they come across the Titan killing Titan being devoured by the other Titans - a cannibalization they'd never seen before, but what baffles them even more is what they find coming out of the back of it's neck. A body, a person.

Eren.

Mikasa loses it then, falling to the ground in front of his body and wrapping herself around him, sobbing. He's back. He's back, and he's alive, and Mikasa can't keep control of herself - something she's always been able to do in the past - at the realization of it.

However, at the command of the superior officers, their friends are forced to hand Eren over to Kitts Woerman, who would be then processed as a Titan and most likely killed on the spot. Mikasa and Armin refuse to allow Eren to face this alone, and while Armin keeps Eren up in his fatigued state, Mikasa stands between them and an entire squad of soldiers, with all of their guns pointed towards them, being told to execute the three. There is an attempt to talk it out, Armin stepping up and trying to talk down Woerman, but it's no use and he orders a canon to fire down upon them. Eren uses his power to save Mikasa and Armin in the face of that imminent danger, but when faced with the chance to repeat the decision, Woerman is about to execute the order, only to be stopped by Commander Dot Pixis, head administrator of the southern region, who stops him. Instead, Pixis sends them on a mission to plug the whole in the wall, something only Eren can do in his Titan form.

The mission does not go well, with Eren losing control of himself while in his Titan form and causing many causalities, Mikasa almost included in them because of her belief that Eren would be able to recognize her in his Titan form. He doesn't, though, and nearly kills her, but she is able to escape and ends up shifting her orders by her own decision, again, turning on the soldiers who seem to want to attack Eren and claiming she'd kill them if they laid a hand on him. Thankfully, Armin is able to bring Eren to his senses and plug the whole, and Captain Levi arrives to kill off a bunch of Titans that had been about to attack them all.

THE FEMALE TITAN ARC
Once the chaos that was known as the battle of Trost District ends, Eren is brought to a military trial to decide his fate and his position as both a Titan and a member of the 104th Trainees Squad, tied up like a monster and left on display to the top men in the world. Mikasa is manipulated into testifying against Eren and his reckless actions as a Titan - how he had almost killed her, almost killed other soldiers - and while her intent had been to free him, she ends up providing quite a bit of evidence against him for the decisions that will be his future. Her need to save him almost gets her in trouble as well, when she nearly jumps into the the middle of the trial to fight Levi when he starts beating Eren up - a plan to help him end up in the Survey Corps that Mikasa had not been a part of. If it had not been for Armin holding her back, there was a good chance she would have been arrested there as well. As it stood, however, she was sent back to training, given the chance to pick the division she would be a part of, and when Commander Erwin Smith comes to recruit for the Survey Corps, she is one of the few that remains. It is not clear if her intention to be a part of the Survey Corp was because of Commander Smith's speech or if it was because she knew Eren was in the ranks of the Survey Corps - having been given the chance to fight for humankind as long as he was under the watchful eye of Captain Levi - but what is clear is that by the end of that night, she becomes a member of Survey Corps, answering to none other than Commander Erwin Smith.

Mikasa is part of the next expedition, the 57th the Survey Corps has gone on, and she leaves with the rest on horseback to her first time back beyond the wall. However, shortly after leaving Wall Maria the Female Titan attacks and kills a number of her follow soldiers, but the orders are to keep going until they get to the forest, and Mikasa was always one to follow orders. They get to the forest and Mikasa is assigned to the group that stays along the treeline, to keep other Titans from entering the forest during the mission, but is distracted when she hears Eren's yell in his Titan form. She, again, and despite how devoted of a soldier she proves herself to be at other times, disobeys her orders and charges into the forest to save him - finding the Female Titan devouring his body when she arrives. Without any care for her own safety, Mikasa jumps into the fight, attempting to kill the female titan to save Eren even when she was aware of just how unlikely it would be. She fails, but keeps trying, keeps fighting, and is only successful when Levi joins her in the fight. They bring him back to the rest of the formation after that, Eren in such a poor state he is unable to move himself. The formation is continually attacked by Titans due to a few soldiers who disobeyed direct orders, and Mikasa has to save them.

The next mission she becomes a part of is one headed primarily by Armin, to prove the identity of the female Titan and to successfully detain and interrogate her. She goes with Eren and Armin undercover to trick Annie, trying to draw her underground where it would be much easier and safer to fight her if she were to shift into her female titan form. However, before the plan could be put into motion, Annie figured them out and shifted form in the middle of the Capital in an attempt to reach the wall and escape. Eren is unable to shift because of the fact he knows Annie, can't believe it would be her who could do such things, and because of that Armin steps up, changes the plan, and he and Mikasa jump in to try and go after the Titan. With pressing from Mikasa, though, because even then they find themselves hesitating. Eren and Armin find themselves losing themselves to emotions in the face of the attack. Mikasa is able to bring them both back, keep them on task, because they are soldiers. They have to be able to keep moving. Eren starts to fall apart at one point, not sure he could bring himself to fight, and Mikasa just steps forward. Out from underground.

This is one of the few times we see Mikasa get short with either Eren or Armin. Before, where her priorities had always been the two of them, she starts to shift more and more into the role of a soldier. She knows what's at stake, knows that the fight she is a part of is so much more than just her life. Than anyone one person. She's fighting for humanity, for them all, and she knows to do that she has to keep them, and herself, together.

"We don't have a choice, because the world is a cruel and merciless place."

Mikasa jumps into battle with the female titan without reserve, knowing that she's not only protecting Eren, but the entirety of the Capital, an area not built, or experienced, in the chaos that is a Titan attack. Annie is trying to get Eren, to kidnap him and bring him somewhere - they don't know - but Mikasa won't let that happen. She refuses to lose Eren, no matter what. Eren is finally able to shift into Titan form, but Mikasa notices that even so he's not strong enough to defeat her. Or to stop her. She decides then that the only way he'll be able to do anything is with help, and as the strongest soldier in the Survey Corps she decides to fight with him. Realizes that the only way they'll be able to make this work is if they fight together. And even though before Eren hadn't recognized her, there is no other way - and like she has before, she is willing to bet her life, to trust her life, to Eren. It works, thankfully, and Mikasa makes it up the wall to cut off Annie's fingers, to keep her from climbing the wall completely, and Annie falls back to the ground. Eren jumps in, nearly eats Annie alive, but sh encases herself in crystal to keep from being captured and experimented on.
